Elisabetta Sassarini

I am a Philosophy DPhil student at Jesus College, Oxford. Before coming to Oxford, I completed both my BA (2018) and MA (2021) in Philosophy at the University of Bologna, and then pursued a one-year MA (2022) at Uppsala University. My DPhil is supervised by Professor Timothy Williamson and co-funded by the Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC DTP and Jesus College. My research explores the connections between the debate on the explanation of conscious experience and issues concerning the methodology of metaphysics. In particular, my project focuses on the view that consciousness cannot be reductively explained in terms of underlying physical processes, and aims at clarifying whether such a view relies on ad hoc assumptions about the substantiality of metaphysical questions.
