Emilia Flack

Emilia is a DPhil student at Magdalen College, Oxford. Her research focuses on the lives of communist women in Algeria, exploring the possibilities and limits of sociability and solidarity across racialised communities throughout the longue durée of decolonisation. Moving beyond existing scholarship that has primarily examined how such possibilities were contested in the public sphere, her work focuses on life-writings, subjectivities and intimate relationships between communist women in the domestic sphere as both an under-examined space of cross-community sociability and the most 'intimate' site of colonial domination. She is supervised by James McDougall.
