Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics
I have been researching various aspects of early Soviet documentary film since I did my MA degree at Russian State University of the Humanities and postgraduate course at State Institute of Art Studies in Moscow, Russia. I have written many scientific articles on works of the documentary director Dziga Vertov in particular. In 2020, I published a book of Vertov`s poems ("Miru - Glaza". Dziga Vertov. Stihi). This won the award for the best book of the year in the «History of Cinema» category by the Russian Guild of Film Critics and Film Scholars. As a Fellow Researcher at the State Institute of Art Studies, I spoke at various scientific conferences and compiled a lot of scientific articles in collective studies and scientific journals. In addition, I have been working as a film critic and film reviewer for about 8 years in various Russian journals and film media.
My doctoral project — supervised by Prof. Emma Widdis — focuses on female documentary film makers of the Stalin era. The role of women in the history of Soviet documentary film has not been studied yet, as well as what technical and artistic contribution they made to the cinematic practice in the USSR. In my project, I wish to fill in the lacunas of the life and work of women who remained in the shadow of the male dominant society.
My OOC AHRC DTP Studentship is co-funded by Corpus Christi College.
