Kristýna Rendlová

Kristýna is a DPhil candidate in Oriental Studies at the Khalili Research Centre for the Art and Material Culture of the Middle East, the University of Oxford. Her doctoral research project addresses the imagery of architecture in 15th- and 16th-century Ottoman illustrated manuscripts. She presented some preliminary conclusions of this research at the Symposia Iranica Conference (2017), the International Congress of Turkish Art (2019), and in a paper titled “An Afterglow of Byzantium in Ottoman Illustrated Manuscripts: The Case of the Pictorial Representation of Architecture,“ published in Convivum: Exchanges and Interactions in the Arts of Medieval Europe, Byzantium, and the Mediterranean (2017).

In addition to pursuing her doctoral project, Kristýna has been working on Islamic art objects from the collections in the Czech Republic and has published several articles on these. She held fellowships at Bosporus University, Turkey (2015-2016), and Harvard University, the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture (2018).
