Ella Williams

I studied for an undergraduate MA in French and Arabic at St Andrews (2018) and then a MSc in Modern Middle Eastern Studies at Wolfson College, Oxford (2019). Following graduation, I moved to the Atlas Mountains in Morocco to work in a boarding house which provides board and lodging to girls from remote villages, enabling them to access secondary education. My DPhil research aims to evaluate the impact of girls’ boarding house in the High Atlas region of Morocco to determine whether they are an effective model to support the UN SDGs of equal access to secondary education, gender equality and rural development in rural North Africa. I intend to conduct a long-term, ethnographic study in the region (if circumstances allow). My DPhil is also supported by a Magdalen College scholarship and the Clarendon Fund. I am supervised by Dr Michael Willis.
