Following my undergraduate studies in French and Portuguese at UCL, I graduated with distinction in the MPhil in Latin American Studies at Cambridge before returning this year for a PhD. My doctoral project focusses on football in Uruguay in the first decades of the 20th century, and touches a number of fields including social and global history, popular cultural studies and visual culture. I hope to bring football into dialogue with work on modernity, nationalism and globalisation, and show how a greater (and long overdue) academic engagement with the world's most universal cultural mode can enhance the way we understand different societies.
