I am a DPhil candidate in Philosophy at Somerville College, Oxford supervised by Dr Bernhard Salow. Most of my research is in Epistemology and my DPhil project centres on the nature and normativity of certainty. I challenge the consensus that one cannot be justifiably psychologically certain of a false proposition. By doing this, my project both advances, and provides novel support for the view that certainty is what we should strive for when we are forming beliefs, making claims and deciding what to do. My work also touches on adjacent topics in epistemology such as contextualism and higher-order justification. I also have research interests in Metaphysics and the Philosophy of Mind.
Previously, I undertook the MLitt in Philosophy at the University of St Andrews and before that obtained a BA (Joint Honours) in Philosophy & English Literature at the University of Birmingham.
I am delighted to be co-funded by OOC AHRC DTP, the Ruth Adler Graduate Scholarship and the Clarendon Fund.
