Charles Baker

My research concerns the development, taxonomy and intertextuality of the exegetical scholia to the Iliad. This research will seek to explore how the large and varied exegetical corpus can be taxonomised and how the problems presented by multiple anonymous authors can be approached. I will also be examining the relationship between the exegetical scholia and other ancient critical texts, and exploring where each influences the other. This research builds on my MPhil dissertation, which began to explore models and methodologies for approaching the exegetical Iliadic scholia. This project is supervised by Dr Emma Greensmith.

I completed my BA and MPhil at New College, and I am currently affiliated with Corpus Christi. I returned to Oxford after two years teaching at a leading independent school.
