My DPhil research, which is supervised by Rebecca Beasley and funded by the Open-Oxford-Cambridge DTP and Magdalen College, Oxford, examines depictions of male and female virginities in early twentieth-century British literature. I am particularly interested in where the language of virginity recurs, and how it functions, in this period. How does virginity complicate discussions of modern (anti)sentimentality, time, and Englishness? Wider research interests include the history of (a)sexuality, queer and modernist temporalities, and gender dynamics in modern culture.
