Kirsty Peacock

I am originally from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire and graduated with a BA in History and Politics from Trinity College, Oxford in 2020, which is where I first became drawn to modern British and French women’s and gender history. I explored this interest further through a MSt in Women’s Studies at Wolfson College, Oxford in the 2020-21 academic year, where I am staying for the DPhil. Working within the ‘Women and Work in the City of London’ Collaborative Doctoral Award with Baring Archives, I explore the socio-economic backgrounds of women undertaking work in London’s financial sector and address how they perceived the value of their work to the organisations they worked for. I am also interested in how technological advances facilitated the feminisation of clerical work and will use the case study of women working at Barings Bank to shed light on broader debates about the relationship between technology and gender throughout the twentieth century. This project is supervised by Dr Rowena Olegario and Professor Catherine Schenk and funded by the Wolfson Marriott Scholarship.
