My research explores the way gendered bodies are presented in the ancient Greek novels. These texts of desire, written in Greek during the Roman Empire, at first appear as very predictable boy-meets-girl stories. At the same time, however, there are a lot of slippages in these often chaotic texts, which makes them useful starting points for thinking through the fundamental weirdness of embodiment. The project is supervised by Tim Whitmarsh.
